Here are a few things to consider when commissioning an artwork.
I create artworks on 2 types of substrates - watercolour paper or stretched canvas.
The paper option is available in 2 different painting styles - watercolour (transparent colour with ink line) or gouache (opaque colour). They are painted on thick archival 300gsm watercolour paper. This option will require framing.
The canvas option is painted with artist quality acrylics on stretched thick-edge canvases. The work will be varnished and finished with a hanging wire at the back and is ready-to-hang (no framing required).
Paintings on 300gsm watercolour paper (gouache or watercolour):
A5 (14.8cm x 21cm) - $190 AUD (+postage)
A4 (21cm x 29.7cm) - $350 AUD (+postage)
A3 (29.7cm x 42cm) - $490 AUD (+postage)
Paintings on stretched canvas:
Prices for stretched canvas paintings start from $350 AUD (+postage). Includes final varnish and is ready to hang with a hanging cord at the back.
8x10" (20.3cm x 25.4cm x 3.8cm deep)
10x12" (25.4cm x 30.5cm x 3.8cm deep)
16x20" (40.6cm x 50.8cm x 3.8cm deep)
20x24" (50.8cm x 60.9cm x 3.8cm deep)
12x12" (30.5 x 30.5 cm x 3.8cm deep)
20x20" (50.8 x 50.8 cm x 3.8cm deep)
24x24" (60.9 x 60.9 cm x 3.8cm deep)
If you're not sure about the size we can have a chat about what would be appropriate for your purposes (e.g. is it an artwork for wedding invitations or an artwork to be hung up in your bedroom?).
I will be painting your artwork using one of your photos for reference. Please ensure this photo is clear (not blurry) and with good lighting (not too dark so the colours are as true as possible). Additional photos from multiple angles of the subject can be really helpful. It gives me a better idea of how the subject looks and I can capture the details more accurately.
If there are any special features or colours you'd like included in the artwork please ask!
Once we've discussed the details and what you're after, I usually start with a rough pencil sketch to work out the composition and send this through for your comments and tick of approval. Once the sketch layout is finalised we begin the painting process (I usually issue an invoice for a 50% deposit to commence the painting).
Throughout the process I keep you updated with progress photos. The artwork will be shipped out to you once you are completely happy with your painting!
If you have a date you would like the artwork by please let me know! I'll do my best to make sure you receive it in time.
Completion of the artwork does depend on the size and material of your painting - so I've listed a rough guide below - the times listed are assuming my availability (I'm only one person after all!) and that all details have been finalised and are for the painting part of the process.
Paper option - about 2 weeks plus shipping time (for A4 size)
Canvas option - about 4-5 weeks plus shipping time (for 16x20" size - this includes drying time for the paint and varnish which takes 2 weeks)
